Band, Chorus & Orchestra

The middle school orchestra program consists of a 5th grade ensemble and a 6th grade ensemble. We will be broadening our instrumental techniques and strengthening out ability to play as an ensemble. The middle school orchestra students will rehearse twice a week in a group and receive small group lessons each week.

The middle school choral students learn about stylistic differences in music, articulation, phrasing, tone productions, note reading, and concert presence. The middle school chorus students will rehearse twice a week in a group and receive small group lessons each week.

The middle school band students will rehearse twice a week in a group and receive small group lessons each week.

It is our desire to help each individual student:

  • realize their maximum musical potential on their chosen instrument.

  • realize their maximum musical potential on their chosen instrument.

  • develop a positive self-image through musical accomplishment and performance.

  • learn about music and musicianship through specialized training at lessons and rehearsals.

  • realize the value of a musical education as an intellectual, physical and emotional experience that relates to all aspects of living and learning.

Each of the 5th grade performing groups gives a concert in the spring.  Each of our 6th grade performing groups gives two concerts a year, in the winter and the spring.  These performances are held at Longwood High School.

In addition, many of our students receive scores of excellent and outstanding in the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Solo Festival and are selected to participate in the Suffolk County Music Educators Association (SCMEA) All County Band.
