John Holmes

John Holmes was born
on Feb. 14, 1919. He was the son of Richard and Gertrude Holmes.
Before entering the service he was working as a truck driver at
Still’s Poultry Farm in Selden. He attended school at West Yaphank
for 8 years and later attended Port Jefferson High School. Holmes
entered the Marines in Jan, 1945. As a private he spent 3 months
with Squad 51 at Camp
Lejeune.
As a Corporal he served for 6 months in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Rising to the rank of Sgt. He served for 15 months at Cherry Point.
Holmes was sent to school to study radar in College of the Ozarks in
Arkansas and in Chicago.
