Arthur Risley was born on
March 9, 1894 in Middle Island. Arthur
Risley was the son of Thomas and Grace Risley of Yaphank. Before
enlisting in the Army, Risley was working for Charles E. Franesbach and
Sons as a farmer. Arthur
enlisted in the Army on December 4, 1917. He was assigned to the 464th
Engineers. Risley was assigned to a pontoon train, his unit built
pontoon bridges for advancing troops. He was engaged at St. Mihiel, the
Meuse River and the Battle of the Argonne Forest. Risley was discharged
on May 14, 1919.
