Lance Lohman, Ed.D. Named Next Superintendent of Longwood Central School DistrictThe Board of Education announced at their January 21, 2021 meeting that Lance Lohman, Ed.D., has been appointed as the new Superintendent of Schools, effective July 1, 2021.

Dr. Lohman will replace Dr. Lonergan, who will retire on June 30, 2021.  Dr. Lonergan has served the district for 19 years and has been an educator and administrator for 43 years.

Dr. Lohman joined the Longwood community in 2013 as a math teacher at Longwood High School. In 2015, he was selected as an assistant principal in the high school, and in 2017, he was appointed to his current role as the Director of Curriculum for ELA, Math, and Science K-12.

Dr. Lohman is an inspiring and innovative leader that brings a strong background in instruction, curriculum development, and management, both as an administrator and classroom teacher.

"Throughout his tenure at Longwood, Dr. Lohman has been instrumental in strengthening the district's mission of providing all students with the opportunity for success," said Penelope Blizzard-McGrath, Esq., Board President. "He is an educational leader whose commitment to learning and teamwork will help build upon the district's history of excellent programs and initiatives. He has the experience and enthusiasm needed to move Longwood forward, especially during these challenging times where we face so many uncertainties. We look forward to working with Dr. Lohman and sharing his vision for the district with our school community."

"I am truly honored for the opportunity to serve the Longwood Central School District as its next superintendent of schools, and want to thank the Board of Education for their trust in me to lead," said Dr. Lohman. "This is an outstanding community that places its students at the heart of all of its decisions. I look forward to working with all of the students, staff members, and families within the Longwood School Community to help shape the future of the district as we look to recover LongwoodStrong from the recent impacts of this global pandemic. We must work together to transition from an air of uncertainty toward proactive solutions that allow our children to return safely to nurturing, supportive, and fulfilling learning environments."

Dr. Lohman received his Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Dowling College and his Master's degree in Mathematics Education from Queens College. He earned his administrative certification from Dowling College and completed his doctoral work in Administration and Supervision at St. John's University.

The selection of Dr. Lohman results from an intensive, months-long search conducted by the Board of Education with the assistance of Eastern Suffolk BOCES utilizing feedback from a survey conducted with the school community.

"The Board greatly appreciates the role that parents, students, teachers, and staff played in helping identify the personal and professional qualities they wanted in a new superintendent," said Mrs. McGrath. "By participating in the survey, our community gave us the road map to follow as we reviewed applications and interviewed candidates for the position."
